Josi Chave is a House music Dj, which basically defines all genres of House music. He enjoys playing for an "urban crowd", the typical house junkies, people who appreciate good quality music. He has shared stages with a hand full of Djs and aritists. Josi Chave also featured on the Massive Soul Good Tour which featured djs such as Black Coffee , Roland Clark from Maimi and Vinny da vinci.

Currently Josi Chave has a 2hr slot on dancegruv.com which is based in Maimi florida and features top Maimi deejays such as Pablo Stell R and Marco Castro.

Every Dj has a muse that keeps the ground firm. Josi's draws his from working individuals, and the hunger in him to make a difference within the music industry. They say its the greater things in life that make it worth living. This humble man mentions his musical highlight as one playing at a gig with T.D.K's and "rocked the party" at 14! His achievements stretch to winning a dance competition in 1994 (and they say deejays can't dance), 2 albums released through Soul Candi and running a record label (Blacknoize Records). The second compilation; "the 5th" album is out in music stores nationwide, a compilation with some of his production promises to be the best of its kind. As usual there is a touch of foreign beats, the likes of Studio Apartment, Wahoo and Copyright to just drop hints. The difference is that the previous one was more tech house minimal, "I feel that the music on the album was a bit too futuristic for S.A Listeners. With the current one, it's more of club banging, booty shaking, singing along involved".

With almost 9 years as a disk jockey, he saw it fit to release his first compilation in February 2008 under his own recording label "Blacknoize Records". The album distributed by Soul Candi and featured top international producers/Djs such as: Marcus Wargull, Ame, Chris Lake and Dj Gregory.

Born and bred in Soweto (Diepkloof), Josi Chave is one of those unrated producers and underground Djs. Josi Chave real name 'Josias' as affectionately known, derives the stage name from his birth name and the "Chave" was taken from the Portuguese language meaning key. So it the name actually means "The key to house Music, the key to unlocking new opportunities within our music industry".

The talent can be traced back to the tender age of age of 12. Life became "monotonous" and he got introduced to the industry by his brother and current business partner. He started playing at birthday parties and weddings. Only a few can buy equipment with the money made from the gigs. With equiptment bought. The self taught Dj saw him land opportunities to play for cooperate events organised by Vodacom and Standard Bank to name a few. He enrolled in a music production course at the one of South Africa's reputable stables; Soul Candi in 2002 being the first student at The Soul Candi Music Institution.

After the course completion he landed numerous jobs including freelance work at Jazzworx then T.I.M.E Dialectics Studios. In 2004 his work paid off when he hopped from a sound engineer/producer to being an A&R Manager, assisting in finding local Hip hop talent across Johannesburg. In Late 2005, he worked with another child hood friend – DOME (Mojalefa Tsotetsi) where he had an opportunity to be a part of tracks which were produced for Skwatta Kamp, Flabba, Mandoza, 985 and Pro Kid. His skill reached to greater levels when he did jingles and ringtones for Cadbury and Peach Mobile proving that a Dj/Producer has to often push boundaries.

As if the journey had begun, little did he know that life would truly begin after he matriculated. In 2006 He enrolled at the Academy of Sound Engineering for a 2 year Sound Engineering Diploma. He passed top of his class and the School offered him a job as an I.T administrator as well as the freelance engineer for studios within the SABC. Another jump starting in the right direction was in 2006 when he was offered a contract from SHEER Records, at that time Sheer was one of the biggest Dance Recording Company. Housing top brands such as Soul Candi, and highly ranked Djs such as Dj Fresh, Glen Lewis, Dj Ganyani to name a few.

When asked for advice to other hopefuls he responded with a quote saying "Unlike any other industry… The music doesn't have any money, thus you have to work hard and find ways to make money. The industry has no money but has plenty of ways to make money so don't limit yourself to one thing".

Josi Chave: "Don't 'beg' anyone or act inferior to anyone in hope that, that person will take you places or elevate you/ only you can elevate yourself that's done through respecting people as individuals and not the job titles they have….."

This man is to be looked out for. Experience can only get one so far.

Gigging Experience

I have played at most venues in Soweto, Johannesburg north, Johannesburg central, Pretoria, Limpopo and North West playing alongside Djs and artists such as: Euphonik, Franky, Giggs, Crazy white Boy, Milkshake, Crooks, Master Jam, Mr. Cee, Fresca, 2lani Warrior, Glen Lewis, Dj Sbu, Dimplez, Mo flava, Tholi B, Bobstar, China, Black coffee, Pro, Skwatta Kemp, Nhlanhla Nciza, Teargas, Jub Jub, Lulo Cafe, C- live, Winnie Khumalo, Naked dj, Dj Monde, Lady Lea, Aero, international Dj Pastaboys (Italy), A- Jam and T.J Cases from the UK. I also featured on the Massive Soul Good Tour which featured djs such as Black Coffee, Roland Clark from Maimi and Vinny da vinci.
