NEWS CAFE MILLER MOJO EXPRESS DJ COMPETITION 2009

17 March, 2015 By djsa

The finalists of the News Cafe Miller Mojo Express DJ Competition 2009 made it a night to remember, as they unleashed their particular brand of mojo on a capacity crowd at News Cafe Menlyn on Friday, 09 October.

Battling it out for the coveted title, the five funky DJ’s, including: DJ Chris Sen, DJ Stereologik, DJ Milkshake, DJ Nelz Que and DJ Ric Panic; initially had to beat off more than 300 entrants from across the length and breadth of SA’s shores, to secure their exclusive spot in the final.

Taking centre stage, the finalists pulled out all the stops and scratches, captivating the audience with their spell binding individual performances. After much deliberation from the judges, which included representatives from News Cafe, Miller Genuine Draft, DJSA and Audiosure, last year’s winner — DJ Mamba, DJ Fresh, as well as DJ Euphonik; the overall winner for 2009 was announced as the hugely talented DJ Milkshake.

Soweto-born DJ Milkshake (aka Kagiso Milkshake), already a household name on Jozi’s entertainment scene, will soon find himself jetting off with DJ fresh and Euphonik to the Miami Winter Music Conference 2010, as sponsored by Miller Genuine Draft. Additional prizes include:
– Equipment (CD player and mixer combo) from Gemini to the value of R25,000 sponsored by Audiosure
– A one-year management contract from DJSA
– Residency at News Cafe’s around the country

If this weren’t enough, DJ Milkshake will also have the opportunity to open and close for the ever popular DJ Fresh during his upcoming: DJ Fresh The Evolution CD tour to 20 News Cafe’s around the country, as brought to you by Olmeca Edicion Black Tequila and News Cafe.

Says DJ Milkshake of his recent achievement: “I feel very honoured to have won this competition. I am very excited and also looking forward to having fun and building a big name for myself.”

In second place was DJ Stereologik, winning himself Allan and Heath Headphones to the value of R3,000; and in a worthy third place was DJ Chris Sen, who danced away with a Gemini 626 Mixer.

Concludes Carli Wessels, Special Events Manager for News Cafe: “News Cafe is committed to the development of young DJ talent in South Africa. Congratulations to DJ Milkshake who will now represent News Cafe as the face of music, and will be seen jamming at our key events and high profile parties over the next year. It was a really tough decision for the judges to make as the standard, as in previous years, was incredibly high. Everyone who made it through faced fierce competition, so well done to all the finalists. Best of luck for 2010, as we again set out to look for SA’s next TOP DJ!”
