DJ Lloyd Feat Alicia Interview

17 March, 2015 By djsa

He’s got a decade of experience behind his name and with tracks like “VIP” and “Station 1”; it’s easy to understand why DJ Lloyd’s popularity is growing at a rapid pace. Lloyd has the ability to elevate a crowd, playing many styles from Deep House to Electro and Funky House. He’s played at a number major events such as, Kiss, Splash, Rebirth and Saturday Surgery Launch, just to name a few and has also held residencies at many of South Africa’s top clubs such as ESP and Groovebar in Johannesburg.

Alicia has been experimenting with music since the age of 15 when she started playing guitar. With a voice that’s sweet, sexy and sultry, she’s destined for fame. Alicia has participated in Sun International competitions, gaining exposure on DSTV’s Kyknet. She has also toured with the First National Bank Rocking Future Road Show and the Opel Rocking Future Road Show, where she was both a presenter and vocalist. Having also toured with Lady Lea on the “Catch me if you can” tour and releasing tracks with both Lady Lea and Justin Vee, Alicia’s fan base is most certainly on the rise.

DJ Lloyd Feat Alicia Interview

Coming together as a duet, DJ Lloyd featuring Alicia is a combination that’s energetic and fresh. In a very competitive industry, having that extra edge is what it’s all about and so when listening to this duo, it’s easy to understand why they attract the mass.

1.So, how did DJ Lloyd and Alicia get together and start performing as a duet?

Lloyd:3 years ago we got introduced and started doing 1 or 2 tracks to see the reaction at various venues only to find there was very much a market for something of this nature. No one else has been doing it so we decided to take it more seriously.

2.Lloyd, your favourite style of playing is funky house, why is this?

Lloyd: Personally I find funky music far more acceptable to all age groups which makes it easier to cater for the most of the market.

3.Alicia, have you had any formal vocal training?

Alicia: I haven’t had any formal training but I have given it a thought. I’m a full time singer and I gig 4 to 5 nights a week, mostly 4 hours every night, so like they say practice makes perfect.

4.What has been both your favourite venue to perform at so far?

Malabar, Ku De Ta & Casablanca

5.Lloyd you obviously have a passion for the music and industry, at what age did you know that this was exactly what you wanted to be doing and how did you get started?

Lloyd: Music has always been a thing in the family however my introduction to house music was only at the age of 19. It was in college where I was taught the basics and within a year I was already playing at top clubs in SA.

6.Alicia, you are not only a vocalist but also write your own songs, if we had to put your writing into a genre of music would it also be dance or do you write your music in a different style, like ballad or rock

Alicia: I would definitely say I write my songs with a pop / rock commercial feel. When it comes to writing music you can take any genre of music and convert it to whatever sound you’re looking for.

7.Are there any DJ’s or artists that inspire you in the industry?

Lloyd: Justin Vee has given me loads of inspiration not only as a DJ but as a friend.

Alicia: I agree with Lloyd. Justin Vee is such a great guy! In this small industry of ours, it’s very rare to find other DJ’s or Artists that aren’t selfish.. people that are willing to help you and not stab you in the back for a quick buck or two.

8.Do the two of you have any plans to produce and release any tracks of your own together?

Alicia: Yes definitely when the time is right to do so.

9.Lloyd, becoming a well known DJ is not easy, there are so many DJ’s out there, some brilliant and some, not so much, but there are also so many youths that want to get into the industry; do you have any wise words for them?

Lloyd: Brilliant Question… Yeah, it really is a tough industry and you have to hold out for quite some time before you truly see results. Marketing and showing interest in the venue you want to play at will get you there provided you have the right music and attitude.

10.What do both of you do when it’s time to just chill out?

Alicia: I like to chill at home.. Make some dinner and watch some movies.

11.What is the one thing that not many people know about you?

We love koeksisters!!!
