SYMBIOTEK III 2009 – 2 DAY NEW YEARS OUTDOOR MUSIC FESTIVAL

31 December 2009 – 1 January 2010

2009 has been a massive year for underground dance music in Johannesburg, we have been witness to leaps and bounds of growth in the scene – not only in the amount of people finding themselves begging for more, but also in the progression of where the music is headed.

As the year dwindles, we reminisce on past events and wonder how we should celebrate these last 365 days, and most importantly, how we should celebrate the coming of the new year 2010. Contemplate no further, as once again two of the best known underground production teams are uniting to bring you SYMBIOTEK III. Teknotribe and Red Eye Productions are holding nothing back for this one. This epic event will be taking place at the newly renovated Crocodile Cradle which is situated on the banks of the Crocodile River in Hartebeesport Dam. There will be a techno and psy trance DANCEFLOOR both equipped with rocking sound. The line-up boasts some of S.A’s most talented underground DJ’s with a wide variety of styles to suit everyone. we have not ONE, but THREE phenomenal INTERNATIONAL acts to present to you:

ANESTETIC (Timecode, Boom) – Portugal

Co-founder of Swing Music Agency, Anestetic aka JoÃ£o Trindade was born in April 1982, he spent most of his childhood in South Africa where he had his first contact with music. In 1998 Anestetic returns to Portugal and starts being in touch with all kinds of electronic music. Influenced by a few of his Dj friends JoÃ£o started to learn a few things about the art of Djing around 2000. In 2002 he has the first opportunity to show his progress in Lisboa Bar (Lisbon) ever since that day, playing opportunities just started happening and so far he has had the privilege to play for almost all major party producers in Portugal like: Good Mood, Quest4goa, Trance Karma, Synergic Minds, Omium among others and in countries like Brazil, Spain and Germany. 2006 has been the best year in Anestetic’s short music adventure, playing in Synergia (Quest4goa and Omium party), Union Festival, Boom Festival and confirmed bookings at Octopus Launch Party, Freaks Blast Festival in Portugal for new years, and Freaky Dragons Festival 2007. To make things better he also got the attention of Dance Club Magazine has well has Red Bull Music Academy. Anestetic plays all kinds of psychedelic trance from morning sounds to deep dark trance depending on the dance floor mood and obviously the time he performs at.

HAXIRAI (One Foot Groove Portugal)

Haxirai is a Portuguese solo project created by Pedro RosÃ¡rio.,who started to play piano at the age of 8, moving on to drums at 13 and refusing to stop. Pedro gained musical experience by involving himself with various projects and albums with acts such as Lovdxit (hardcore band), Hijack (reggae/ska) and Tara Perdida (punk rock). It was in 2000, after attending that year’s Boom Festival that Pedro decided to try his hand at producing trance music, joining efforts with Paulo Santos in 2001 – creating Clockwise – one of Portugal’s first trance projects. After producing music for six years, Pedro decided to embark on another musical journey, merging his past experience as a drummer with his more recent skill-set of electronic music production, and Haxirai was born. Having performed in various countries like Brazil (Universo Paralello, Groove4Nation, Tripping, etc.), Portugal (Crystal Matrix, Good Trance) and Spain (Psyseed), he has received great reviews on both his music and his live performances (take a look at the linked videos to get an idea). Joining One Foot Groove Europe in 2009, Haxirai’s debut album is scheduled for release in November of this year. 🙂

ONIKS (Funk You) Italy

Two or 3 turntables and external multi effects is what the Italian techno underground Dj Oniks needs to make the crowd jump until the end of the night. Late in the ’90s he starts playing some records during raves and afterhours, giving expression to his percussive musical taste and, later on, spinning his sound in many clubs and filling his calendar with gigs in famous Italian festivals. Appearances on an important national radio channel with his program, contribute to improve his name among the Italian clubbers and give him the right motivation to open his own web radio with dj T.Finn. That’s how Robotron Radio gets into life, tuning every day all kinds of techno music and following his ideal of hard sound. In the mean time FUNK YOU Night was born, the famous party managed by the artist himself that finds Oniks as the protagonist with the most important exponents of the global techno scene. Oniks is also known as one of the most important representative djs in the hard techno Italian scene: his pumping style, his hectic and elegant sets keep Oniks on the wave of clubbing and make him obtain always more success.

SwiTcHcaChe (PsynOpticz) Cape Town

SwiTcHcaChe, aka Broken Switch, started djing in 2003, mixing drum & bass, breaks, hard house & psytrance on vinyl. Discovering his passion for twighlight psy he moved from playing house parties, to indoor events to outdoor festivals such as Prism ReZonance NYE, Earthdance, Beartrap, and the Fu-Cha Gatherings in Johannesburg where he is a resident. He has played alongside leading psy trance artist such as Slug, Artifakt, Shift, Abomination, Jibaro, Daksinamurti, Anestetic, Toxic, Digital Talk, Phatmatix, Frozen Ghost, Xatrix, Deliriant, Rubix Qube, Biorhythm, SwiTcHcaChe not only brings his psychedelic grooves, crazy breaks and dirty basslines to packed dance floors around South Africa but displays his passion for keeping the scene fresh and up to international standards by hosting Cape Town’s leading indoor weekly event “PsynOpticz” with themed ever changing psychedelic decor, a sick hot line up of local & international djs & live acts & a positive, rocking chemistry and energy.
