2004, was the year Thabang Selepe became a DJ going by the name of "Rêve JD". The Soweto born DJ had been exposed to the industry long before then & it was now time for him to rise up.
Now known as "TheBang JD", Thabang has never been afraid of change or adaptation.
Based in Johannesburg, South Africa, TheBang is one of the most charismatic disc jockey to ever hit the scene. Raised in the dusty streets of Soweto during a time where South Africa was at the heart of transformation, he was exposed to a multi-cultural society and therefore exposed to different musical genres from an early age.
His first experience of dance music was in the early 90's when 'Disco Music' was still big in SA. He was fortunate to be growing up in a place with a lot of entertainment; therefore his ears were always graced with the loud melodic sounds.
Having been influenced by Hip Hop, Tech, tribal, house music and any sort of live music, ThêBang started producing his own music. After 5 years of production he decided to get into DJ'n with is first performance being at Trancesky Melville. He then teamed up with Blacknoize Records he became part of the Blacknoize Family where he got the opportunity play at most of the prominent venues in the region with most if not all of the big name DJ's in the country & internationally. His spontaneous, flexible and innovative intuition has built up a formidable reputation which sets him apart from many of his kind. He now runs his own stable called Linkage Entertainment.
Reserved, studiously academic, inventive, imaginative, reserved, enigmatic, shy and bold are but of the few ways in which many across the world perceive and see TheBang. No matter how he is seen he remains one of the very few Club DJs in the country who genuinely understands the precise function of a music deejay: Just entertain the people. He was selected as a finalist for SA Next Top DJ by Newscafé in 2009 which then began his relationship with DJSA. Till this day it's still going strong.
Thebang is now part of a crew, City Soul Addicts. Which has caused mayhem in Johannesburg city central, Braamfontein. He now performs his sets with live secessionist artists, from percussionist, guitarist, and saxophonist to keyboard players. This makes his performance an unforgettable musical experience.
