About MC Tumi

Born in 1992 on the 23rd of March in the heart of Soweto, is a young and gifted Tswana boy by the name of Tumelo Enoch Matila better known as "Tumi" at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

I am a very enthusiastic individual whose talkative, friendly, funny, and approachable character has seen him achieving numerous awards on a theatre stage and priceless experience as an entertainer. I have been on stage from an early age (9 years), being part of the Church and School drama cast. I have always been a child who was always eager to explore my abilities, as I participated in a lot of staged performances such as acting, singing, poetry and dance and happened to be crowned at almost every competition I took part in.

At the age of 21 I am a qualified IT specialist as I have developed the love for computers in my growing up. However this has not drifted me from achieving my childhood dreams. During my secondary level of education at Freedom Community College (Jhb), I took part in the Innercity drama festival at The Hillbrow Theatre and won awards in the following disciplines:

Best runner-up actor (2009)

Best performance in a cameo role (2010)

At the theatre I was involved mostly in comedy and dramatic plays which served as a testimony that I was born to be an entertainer. At that time I had already started being a master of ceremony (MC) and was voted by the learners to MC all the school functions because of my entertaining presence. In class I was known as ''the clown of the class'' and was encouraged by the teachers to study Media or dramatic arts after matric.

After matric I was convinced that I was going to study media, I guess my parents had a different view that lead me to studying Information & Technology. However even that was not enough to drift me away from pursuing my dreams as an entertainer. I joined a local Hip Hop Group (ATM) and during my first semester I was crowned the best rapper voted by the students of Jeppe College. Although I was studying Information & Technology, I was more involved in media activities. The Institution's Head of Department took me for career counselling several times as they believed I had chosen the wrong direction in Information Technology although I was performing well at it.

I started my own stand-up comedy shows in the institution and with the impact I had at the institution's area of entertainment, I was called to MC small and big college events. Even at other campuses countrywide I went and took over the show, because of my creative and artistic comic talent. I was later on elected as the Student Representative Council president (2011-2012) which I received an award for outstanding performance. In June 2012, the college had a talent show involving campuses from Polokwane, Pretoria, Vereeniging, Bloemfontein and our branch in Johannesburg. I was asked not to take part in the competition, but to be their MC.

I owned the stage as usual and did what I do best. To my surprise one of the directors was present and offered me a full bursary to study Media of which I intend to enrol for soon whilst I am building a brand of myself and my career as an entertainer.

With the talent and experience that I have, both as a comedian and an actor, I am paving my way to becoming one of the best comedians to ever hit the world's stage. All the material that I present are written and edited by me to suit my target event, be it a concert, wedding, party, or a banquet. I am able to cater for both formal and casual events and the type of material that I write, is dependent on the audience age group and the type of event.

I am looking forward to working hard on my career under reliable management that will put their maximum effort to expose this undiscovered talent.
