About ::Harbourlight::
So we’re a Christian band called ::harbourlight:: (yes the dots are important), made up of five guys from Johannesburg. Our vision is very much tied up with that verse from Psalm 24; we want our lives and our music to be a vessel through which the King of glory can come in. We are passionate about seeing broken lives restored in His presence, awakened to His glory, and living a life that points others to it.Members:
Shaun
Shaun spent most of his time during high school years writing music and learning to sing and play it better, with this crazy dream that one day he might do that with his life; a real desire to see God use the music to impact lives. Over the years God has fueled his passion for that vision and provided essential needs and opened strategic doors so that he has reached the point of leading a band that has been given the opportunity to record and release an album.
Craig
Craig
Craig is our bassist, and the guy who generally makes us laugh; even when he’s trying to be serious. Shaun and Craig have been close friends for years, and used to do a lot of singing together. It was only in 2005 when Shaun needed a bassist for a conference he was leading worship at that Craig got stuck on bass for the first time. "Just this once" was something like how the agreement went…. But having had the chance to be expressed, the bassist in Craig could no longer be suppressed, and it was all downhill from there, in a great way.
Chris
Chris
Chris is a bloke with too much energy for his own good. He’s only got about 80 odd years to live, but he seems intent on living them as quickly as possible, and tends to get involved in everything that comes his way. We’re trying to slow him down a bit so that he at least makes 40, and I think we might be winning at this point. His involvement in the band started at the end of 2006. Shaun led worship at Chris’s church, and Chris played guitar with him. After that Shaun called Chris to a breakfast at MacDonald’s where all real band topics are discussed, after which Chris agreed to join the band. After watching some live videos we quickly realised that Chris is the guy who makes us look cool on stage; so we like Chris.
Josh
Josh
Another big appointment happened in 2006. Shaun’s sister got married; to a guy called Josh. Josh and Shaun hit off on a great note, and then discovered that they sang pretty well together too. Right after hearing Josh sing Shaun wrote the song "My soul finds rest" for the two of them to sing together. They recorded a demo in studio and straight away it was pretty apparent that along with Craig’s harmonies they had stumbled onto a pretty unique sound. We then got Josh a keyboard for Christmas to add a slightly different flavour to the otherwise guitar driven sound of the band.
Ashley
Ashley
Mr Skinner, that being Ashley, only joined the band while we were in the process of recording our first album. We were put in the position of needing to find a new drummer, and after much prayer from the band, Chris had an idea and asked the guys if they would be interested in listening to a young guy from his church play. So we went off to a service, where unbeknown to him, Ashley would be playing on trial. Ashley is really gifted and has such a natural style of playing drums and worshiping God in it. After his first practice with the band Ash was woven into the ::harbourlight:: fabric, and we absolutely love having him on board; even if just to pick on him.
So that’s us. May we always be in the place where God is changing and shaping us to be more like Him and less like us. It’s out of that process that we will be writing and making music, hoping and trusting that the music causes the same process to happen in the hearts and lives of its hearers.
