Starting out at Wits University, Kagiso was one of the co-creators of the Wits DJ Society. Playing in, and around Jozi it became very transparent, as he’s popularity grew, that DJ Milkshake was a DJ that was going places and quickly.
Working alongside some impressive DJ’s like Ready-D and DJ Fresh, Kagiso has and continues to leave an enthusiastic impression. He’s a regular guest on DJ Fresh’s radio show, and this in itself is a great accomplishment. He’s name ‘DJ Milkshake’ is now as popular, as he is, for getting a party started.

How does it feel to have accomplished what you have in the industry so far?
I feel like it’s a small drop in the ocean. There is so much more that I want to do, and achieve.
You have had and continue to have much success in the DJ world, what has been one of your best experiences so far?
Some of my best experieces definitey include being able to play alongside some of the international DJs that I idolise.
DJ Fresh is an amazing DJ and he speaks highly of your talent, what was it like to work alongside him?
Fresh has always been supportive of my career as a DJ. He’s more of a big brother and a mentor, and it’s an absolute honour to have him recognize and appreciate my work.
Do you still feel the same excitement each time you play a set or gig?
All the time! I still get a bit nervous, but the nerves excite me and always keep me on my toes. It’s an awesome feeling!
If you could gig alongside one DJ worldwide, who would it be and why?
Fatman Scoop, because we share the same energy. I’ve checked out footage from his gigs on Youtube, and I buy a lot of his music. He is the official party DJ.
Making a name for yourself in this industry can be trying, whilst here you are and have arrived there must have been or are moments where you could just throw in the towel, what keeps you motivated?
I think that being focused is key. I’m here because I want to be, and because I enjoy what I do. I’m motivated by my love for music, and wanting to be the best at what I do.
Besides being a phenomenal party starting DJ, do you have any other hidden talents you’d like to share with your fans?
I love my food, and I actually make quite a decent chef.
What wisdom can you pass on to young DJ’s in the world trying to make it?
Be honest and true to yourself, stay humble and work hard at doing what you love!
Whilst you have an all round taste for all music, Hip Hop and R&B are your niche genres when mixing it up, what would you say it is about these 2 genres that draw the best out of you?
The lyrical content puts me in the right mood. I’m also drawn to the evolving nature of these musical genres. You can find remnant of R&B and Hip Hop everywhere. It’s universal.
What can we look forward to from Milkshake over the next few months?
I’m exploring different avenues within Djing and music. I look forward to sharing those avenues, when the time is right.
