DJ Academy at The Vinyl Joint

The DJ Academy at The Vinyl Joint has been in operation since 2006. 

The instructor is Dj Smallisto who has played alongside Mbuso from the Phezulu stable. He was also working at the Phezulu Records DJ Academy . He currently plays at Club S7 at the Penthouse & California at the Doornfontein University of Johannesburg Campus. He recently released his first album called “Naked Grooves” which showcases unknown local talent. Smallisto also heads the A&R division of the Music MYself and I label. Besides DJ’ing, Smallisto works at The Vinyl Joint.

We use Technics turntables, Numark , Stanton & gemini mixers, Stanton CD players. We will be introducing Serato and Ableton Live to our courses very soon.

Our intention is to put students through all mediums of DJ’ing so that they are able utilize any set-up which they might be faced with in the future. With experience we have found that teaching pupils to use turntables initially has advantages when moving onto CD’s or software packages.

Anybody willing to learn and has a love for music qualifies.

The Vinyl Joint is situated on 11 Eloff Str, Faraday, opp Fair Price Furnishers in Johannesburg CBD.
