If you had ever been a visitor to the Whisky-a-Gogo club in Paris in the 1950’s, you might have been annoyed by kissing noises in the breaks between songs.
A lady called Regine Zylberberg definitely found it a problem and thought up the grand idea of replacing the jukebox with two turntables.
The result, no breaks between the music.
The world’s first discotheque was born and the music hasn’t stopped since. Neither has this grand dame, who is famed for teaching monarchs the twist and entertaining the likes of John wayne. Back in the old days of pianos draped with silken-gloved, cigarettes smoking ladies, zylberberg’s name was on the lips of the who’s who for hosting the best parties at the most hip venues in town. Today, she is almost 80 and has chosen a quieter existence, but this sister still rocks.
