My passion for Elvis started at a very young age of 8 when I heard that silky, yet powerful voice of Elvis on one of my brothers LP’s. I have never looked back since. My passion for Elvis grew stronger by the day. I was 10 when Elvis passed away in 1977 and it was one of the saddest days of my life. All I had left was his music. By the age of 11, I already had my first white jumpsuit, rhinestones and all, and entered my first talent competition and made it through to the finals. (At that age, I was not singing, only miming). It was only 20 years later, when I picked up my first microphone in a karaoke bar, that I realised I could sing. I would go to karaoke 2-3 times a week, and only sang Elvis songs. It was hearing the positive reaction from the crowd that made me think that I might be able to fulfill my grea test dream, and that is to be an Elvis impersonator.
It was in 2006 when my daughters school had a fundraiser and they asked me to sing a couple of songs, which I did in my newly acquired white jumpsuit.
A couple of months later while having dinner with friends at Boogies Rock ‘n Roll Diner in Umhlanga, they asked me to sing a song. (All Shook Up). After the owner of Boogies (Leon Breutanbach, ex guitarist from the Band Ballyhoo) heard me sing, he asked if I would be interested in doing a permanent show at Boogies every weekend. I took up the offer and have been singing there for over a year now. Performing at Boogies has been an excellent platform for my career. I sang to hundreds of people every weekend and before I knew it I was getting requests to perform at different functions. I have also cut a demo CD and I am in the process of putting a live band together in order to perform at bigger venues and fulfilling my life long dream. For me there was only one artist that was worthy of walking onto stage. His music still carries on, but Elvis will be missed forever.
